3D artificial vision and modelling, cover a wide research area within Computer Science. Applications range from robotics, to medical data visualization, virtual and augmented reality, CAD, computer animation and so on.
3D visual information provides a rich description of the perceived environment and allows an autonomous agent to perform complex recognition and interaction tasks.
Despite this, such approaches have been carefully used in vision, both in the case of extracting 3D information from a visual input, and when modelling 3D primitives from depth information. The great amount of data, and the need to perform local geometrical computations on many points, often lead to a huge computation overload. In this cases the use of soft-computing techniques like neural networks, fuzzy systems or evolutionary approaches may considerably speed-up the performance, allowing the use of 3D vision and representation in application areas with tight constraints on time, such as robotics.
The aim of this session is to investigate in detail models, sensors, techniques, and whole vision systems oriented towards a 3D representation of the perceived environment, with the use of soft computing techniques. Topics are related, but not limited to:


3D Reconstruction
Shape from X
Stereo
3D segmentation
3D models
3D sensors
Systems for 3D vision
Applications


Both theoretical papers and papers describing practical experiences will be welcome.

Instructions for Authors new

Only electronic copies of the papers in Microsoft Word, PDF or Postscript forms are acceptable for review purposes and must be sent to the session chair. However, please note that you will be required to send hard copy of the final version of your paper, if it is accepted; electronic submission of final papers is not allowed.

the KES2003 proceedings will be published by Springer-Verlag in Lecture Notes in Artificial Intelligence series. So, the camera ready of the papers submitted to your session should strictly follow the LNAI format. Please refer to the Springer Instructions.

All papers must be presented by one of the authors, who must pay fees.

Publication

The Conference Proceedings will be published by a major publisher, for example IOS Press of Amsterdam.
Extended versions of selected papers will be considered for publication in the               International Journal of Knowledge-Based Intelligent Engineering Systems.
